Frequently Asked Questions

List of 13 frequently asked questions.

  • When do classes begin?

Summer at Crossroads full programs begin June 23th, however, a One-Week Swim Camp for students entering grades 2-7 will run June 16-20.

We offer one, three and six week programs. Details about start and end dates can be found in the specific course descriptions. You can find these by clicking one of the five yellow tabs at the top of the site.
  • Do kids from other schools attend the summer program?

Yes, more than sixty percent of the students who attend Summer at Crossroads come from different schools.

Our students represent a diverse population. Last summer they came from 80 different California zip code areas, out-of-state, and other countries. During the school year they attend 192 different public, private, or independent schools. We have welcomed students who live in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, Hawaii, Connecticut, South Carolina, and Colorado. They have traveled from as far away as Canada, China, England, France, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Scotland, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan to participate in our programs.
  • Does my student have to attend all day or a certain number of weeks?

It is best for the child to particpate in any program in its entirety.

We offer great flexibility when building your student's schedule. Students may enroll in one course or program, or can build a full-day schedule.

We realize that circumstances may require that a child miss part of a program. We ask that you contact the office to report absences. See Summer Handbooks once you have enrolled for more information. Upper School credit courses have very strict rules about missed class time for students that take academic credit classes. See Academic Credit in the Policies section of this site.
  • How do I know if my chil is ready to participate in swimming?

Refer to the program or class description to read the skill set that a child should have in order to participate in a particular swim program.
  • Can my child be with his or her friend in class?

For students enrolled in our elementary school programs, every effort will be made to place a child with one friend requested at the time of enrollment.

However, given all of the factors taken into consideration when composing a class, we can not guarantee that a child will be in a class with the requested friend and never with a group of friends. Children are assigned to a specific class and many factors (i.e., whether or not the child is enrolled in one or two sessions, participating for a half or full day, the number of boys, the number of girls, when the enrollment is processed, etc.) are taken into consideration in order to provide balanced classrooms and continuity in program and supervision for each child.
  • Do you provide transportation?

No, we do not provide pick-up or drop-off services.

In addition, we can assist you in arranging a carpool with families who may have a similar interest in forming a carpool. Additionally, older students have utilized public transportation on the Santa Monica Big Blue Bus to and from the 20th Street and Olympic Boulevard bus stop.
  • Can parents volunteer to be in the classroom?

Given the short duration of our classes and programs, we do not typically have parent volunteers in the summer programs.
  • When can I visit my child's class?

In the Information link to the left, see our Summer Calendar and Important Dates to find Parent Invited Events.

Our Elementary School classes and swim programs culminate with an event that invites parents to join their children for Open House and closing activities. We find that all children are comfortable with parent visits at these times.

Middle and Upper School arts classes will have performances and presentations. You will receive more information at the start of the summer program, if your child is enrolled in a class with an opportunity to visit.
  • Can I make a deposit or partial payment for my child's class?

Payment in full is due at the time of enrollment. We accept major credit card payments as a payment option.
  • Do you offer a sibling discount?

We do not offer any discounts on summer tuition and fees. We do offer a limited amount of funds from our TRF (Tuition Reduction Fund).

See Tuition Reduction information in the Policies section of this site.
  • Do you prorate fees for missed days or weeks, if my child cannot attend?

We are unable to prorate course or program fees for time missed by a student.
  • Do you offer any type of financial aid?

We offer a limited amount of funds from our TRF (Tuition Reduction Fund).

See Tuition Reduction information in the Policies section of this site.
  • What should I do after I enroll?

Once we process your enrollment, we will send you information and paperwork about the upcoming summer.

You will receive supplemental paperwork and information depending and the program and the classes selected.
